Hot Licks Top Fuel Hydro Boat Racing Team adds IHBA and SDBA Series Points

Hot Licks Racing went to San Angelo, Texas with a mission, to win the fastest show on the water. The team brought its two boats to Lake Nasworthy for the first annual Southern Drag Boat Association (SDBA) Showdown at San Angelo and took two podium finishes.

Side by side boats line up to run a liquid quarter mile at speeds of up to 250 mph in less than 5 seconds. “We use the exact same motors as John Force and all top fuel motors,” said Hot Licks Racing Crew Chief Steve Chapmon. “The difference is we put the motor in backwards and run it in a boat. It’s a challenging set- up and we must have everything in place before we put the boats in the water.”

On the first day of competition thousands of spectators lined up to enjoy spray of water from the speeding boats. Hot Licks Racing entered its new yellow boat, a hand made Wolf Watercraft which came in 3rd place. The team’s red fiberglass outrigger boat came in 2nd place.

Hot Licks Racing uses K&N Engineering Performance Gold Oil Filters (
HP-5001). “We use K&N because we’ve tested the oil filter's pressure and filtering capability,” said Chapmon. “K&N can handle 250 to 300 pounds of pressure. The one inch nut also makes it easier to remove the K&N Oil Filter when we work on the boats.”

Currently Hot Licks Racing is 3rd overall in points in the International Hot Boat Association (IHBA) Series and 2nd overall in the SDBA Series. The next race will be July 13, 14 and 15 at the Bricktown Nationals in Oklahoma City, Oklamhoma.
